Striving for 60 wpm!

Sorry I haven't blogged in a while. I'm spending as much time as I can on RTC pushing myself to increase my speed. I have taken the 60 wpm final exam twice and I've come close to passing, but close doesn't get you to the next class!

I'm trying to get beyond my hesitation issues. Trying to recall outlines quickly is still a problem for me. Compounding the hesitation issue is that I'm also a perfectionist. So while other people can move on to the next word, I'm pausing longer than I should because I know the stroke and I must hunt it down in my brain. Honestly, do I really need to have a clean transcript at this point in my learning? No. But, it's still frustrating!

  1. As long as you're practicing, it's a good course of action to either drop right away or hunt it down. If you hunt it down, just know it's one of your hesitation words and hit your mark stroke (such as M*RK). Then search for it in your file when you're done writing.

Transfer those words to your notebook or a word file, and go through it a few times to solidify the stroke and again at the end of your session.

Test mode is completely different. Maybe practice non-realtime for a few minutes a day or week to just get a stroke for everything in preparation for testing. Focus on your good, clean realtime for now during practice. Speed will come! You can do it!

  2. You always have wonderful ideas, Jenni. I've never heard of the mark stroke before, but I'm going to start using it. Thanks!

  3. Awww, shucks. Happy to help, but most of the time I'm just typing random thoughts and then clicking Post Comment. That seems to be a theme with me, lol.

I use the mark stroke some of the time, but not always. Sometimes I'm going for accuracy and will mark my trouble strokes, but at blazing fast speed, that goes out the window. Try a million things, and some will work for you. :)
