Test driving an ergonomic stenograph

One of my fellow court reporting students has on loan from a friend in Arizona a Gemini Revolution Grand stenograph. She brought it in for us to see, and our instructor let us try it out during class. This ergonomically-styled stenograph is pretty retro looking. Its split keyboard is infinitely adjustable, and the numbers "bar" has been replaced with individual keys for each number which I found a little awkward.

Thankfully, I've never had any carpel tunnel issues (knock on wood), but I can see how the adjustability of the keyboard could benefit someone who does.

I could probably get used to this type of machine, but on my first attempt, it felt like my hands were in two different rooms trying to make a ham sandwich.

  1. One of the girls in my school was using one of these and then found out the CA CSR board had not approved this machine for the test. She bought a paper machine to use in school.

  2. We're not allowed to use paperless machines at my school either. But it's fun to explore the options!

  3. Ha! That's my machine, lol. I'm awaiting the 'upgrade' right now. Should be here this month. And I know the owner of the Neutrino group worked with the CA board...I believe they 'did' or they are close to changing to allow paperless. I'm in NY and we allow then now. We just print our paper notes out and read from those.

I have used a Gemini since 2003 and I could NEVER go back to a normal machine. I have NO body aches and NO wrist fatigue. The neck is a big 'strain' from normal machines.

http://www.infinitytraditional.com/ is the new updated machine. I can't have my gold color so it will be an Indian Red now. :)
